"The Thread of Self-Expression" is a three-part workshop series designed to empower the LGBTQIA+ community through clothing alteration, self-expression, and skill-building. In partnership with the Cincinnati Transgender Resource Collective (CTRC), the project began with a foundational discussion on the role of fashion and clothing in gender-affirming self-expression and will conclude with a fashion show featuring the works of those involved with the project and workshops. The workshops are open to all who identify as trans , non-binary, or gender fluid and are interested in learning skills for altering and creating custom wearables that empower confidence and self-expression.
Workshop 1: Hemming and Mending
Bring those garments that you’d love to wear and learn how to make alterations that can provide the perfect fit. Elevate them to express who you are. In this workshop, you'll learn the foundational stitches and techniques to hem, mend, and upcycle. No sewing experience required. This workshop, made possible by a grant from ArtsWave, offers a safe and affirming space where each participants creative expression is honored and encouraged.
