Wish Pocket
Writing your wishes or prayers down on a piece of paper can be a concrete way to remember your heart’s desires. And what better way to honor those wishes or prayers than by keeping them safe in a beautiful container. Whether it is a decorated box or a special pouch, housing your intentions in a special place brings power to the wish or prayer just by reminding you of the importance it holds.
In this kit you will find the materials to create your own Wish Pocket.
Step 1: Stitch a Design
Use the top portion of the felt strip to stitch or embroider a design. This can be simple or elaborate, but as you stitch try to slow down and enjoy the movement of needle through felt. Many people have begun to use stitching as a meditative practice called “slow stitching.”
You will eventually fold the bottom portion up behind what you have stitched with an inch more above the top (see diagram below). You can fold your felt just to figure out how much space you have to work with and then unfold to begin.
Step 2: Fold and Sew
Fold the bottom portion of your felt up behind what you have stitch trying to leave about an inch of felt taller on the back than in the front. Then sew around the edges to create the pocket.
Step 3: Fill and Hang
Using the included slip of paper, write a wish or prayer and tuck it inside the pocket.
Things to Think About:
What did you stitch on your pocket and what meaning might it hold for you?
What did you notice while you were stitching? Sounds, breathing, thoughts? Were you able to imagine using this type of work as a way to relax or meditate?
