Coffee with Creators: Julia Martin

Julia stands in a red sundress in front of the Flying Cat studio in Covington, KY. Colorful animal paintings stand on easels by the storefront.

For our friend Julia Martin, creativity and spirituality go hand in hand.

Imagine vibrant paintings of colorful foxes, beautiful homemade books, healing energy work sessions, online self-study chakra e-courses, and e-zines about the Wheel of the Year. This is the creative life that Julia has cultivated through her studio, The Flying Cat.

Julia’s creative path involved an associate degree in graphic design and later a bachelor’s degree in drawing. Through the ups and downs of developing her craft, establishing an artist collective, and building a business, Julia says, “I have always leaned on my faith and spirituality to forge ahead.”

You can see just how important this is to Julia through her art. She explains, “I both celebrate and investigate what it means to be a being of nature, alive at a time when humanity seems so separate from creation. My work gives the viewer an opportunity for connection in a meaningful way via the color and energy evoked. My artwork has given many people a moment of joy, and I hope, a deeper appreciation of nature.”
